Dr. Allison Formanack (PhD Anthropology, CU Boulder 2018) is an applied-cultural anthropologist specializing in Americanist (4-field) anthropology, community-engaged research and service-learning, and nontraditional or alternative housing. Her research delves into the intricate dynamics of homes and housing in the United States, with a particular focus on manufactured/mobile homes and converted vehicular residences (e.g., #vanlife). With extensive experience in applied, environmental, biocultural, and medical anthropology, Dr. Formanack's work investigates the intersections of material culture, race, class inequality, and forms of urban governance. She has published and presented her work in a range of academic journals, conferences, and popular media. As an anthropologist in/of/at home, Dr. Formanack is invested in conceptualizing "home" as a symbolic and material domain, a site of ethnographic exploration, and a critique on the colonial and imperialist legacy of the discipline of anthropology.
